The symbol on the cover is a very powerful as it consists of the interweaving of the basic building blocks of the universe: the circle, triangle and square. People who are sensitive to energy vibrations can feel the powerful energy of this symbol by touching it.

Even before the book was completed individuals were using the diagrams and receiving benefits from their vibrations. I call my spiritual committee my High Self. Jesus called it the Father within. About the Author
Robert E. Detzler is an experienced teacher, counselor and minister. He has lectured and taught throughout the United States and foreign countries. Two of his three books (Spiritual Healing and Soul Re-Creation) are in Spanish for his South American students. Spiritual Healing is also being translated into Hungarian. His other book, The Freedom Path, is the basic text for a psycho-spiritual therapy method of healing past and present life trauma. He frequently conducts workshops to train students how to use his Spiritual Response Therapy for clearing Soul or subconscious energies that may be blocking or limiting them.

Detzler began a spiritual/educational network called the Spiritual Response Association that includes students, and certified consultants and teachers throughout the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Europe, South America, Australia and New Zealand.

Better than a Therapist and Cheaper

Spiritual Healing is better than any therapist and a lot cheaper. Its a powerful way to help yourself and others discover personal power, your connection to the guides and finding a healthy way of being and living in harmony with where we are now and where we are going.

Super easy to use ... though I suspect a bit too 'out there' for some.

Love it, though might be too Woo Woo for some. I do energy healing work with the Emotion Code and Body Code Systems (Thebodycodetohealth) and while I get amazing results, I found that I lacked a way to address the past life roots contributing to some issues. Now I just pull this book out, test to see if there are any past life patterns contributing to the issue I am working on and clear them!

About the Author

He teaches the courses in execution, grading, CAD, DHM, and 3D landscape visualization in the Bachelor s and Master s Programs of the Department of Landscape Architecture. He also directs the Fachstelle f�r Garten- und Landschaftsbau (Research Center for Materials and Construction) of the Institut f�r Landschaft und Freiraum (ILF, Institute for Landscape and Open Space). The ILF is active in applied research in all areas of landscape architecture.

An excellent read - just remember that it uses metric units.

an excellent read that will give some great insights and perspectives on how to think about grading. It's a quick read, too, with lots of images and graphics. The text is to the point after the first section about history. This book uses a more European paradigm (I think it's originally written in German), so the formulas might use different symbols, but it's still the same thing. The grading practice problems in the back are great, but remember that they are in metric or you will start to question your sanity with the first and easiest grading problem in the book.

Grade Easy for the 21st Century

Thankfully CLARB has a new 'in-print' reference for grading portions of the LARE exam. It is basically an overview of grading and drainage topics, but is well written and interesting. I would recommend getting this for studying the multiple choice portions and for Section E, you may need to get more in-depth and specific materials for Section E (I know I did!).

Lockheed's Advanced Development Project has set standards for the aerospace industry for half a century. Since its inception in 1943, the Skunk Works has been one of the most top-secret military contractors. Now that the Cold War has ended, its story is uncloaked by former chief Rich, now retired. Using a small number of expert employees, the Skunk Works built technologically advanced aircraft that were disavowed by the government and its users, the Air Force and the CIA, for years after the aircraft were operational. The Skunk Works built notable planes such as the P-80 (the first operational jet fighter), U-2 (the high-altitude spy plane), and F-117A (the Stealth fighter). The story of Stealth's development is most interesting not only in the design, building, and testing but also in its origina in a Russian scientist's paper on aeronautics. There are first-person accounts of some of the missions flown by pilots and notes from many government officials. Highly recommended.

A gem on many levels

This book is a gem on many levels:

1) On the history and development of spy planes: This has been covered by many previous reviews on this book. So, I won't write more here.

2) On creativity: There are a lot of books on creativity. Many of them are trivial. Most are written by people who themselves have not design or deliver noteworthy innovations that are of national or international significance. This book is different. It is written by a person who has contributed innovations at, and even run Skunk Works, which has delivered innovation after innovation that are internationally significant.

How does a smart scientist or engineer determine if an organization is a place of major technical inventions? This book tells you the characteristics of such organizations. How do you organize and run a place that can deliver breakthrough innovations at bargain prices? This book gives you the principles on how to do it correctly.

3) On cold war and patriotism: This book gives you a glimpse into the cold war, and the hair-triggering tension of nuclear war between U.S. and the ex-Soviet Union. Also, it shows the patriotism among the U.S. government officials, top military echelons, pilots, and civilian scientists and engineers. Even more, it shows how Skunk Works' technologies tipped the power towards the U.S.

4) On biographies: This book is a partial and vivid biography of both Kelly Johnson and Ben Rich. Their personal traits, both strengths and flaws, are clearly described.

5) On Navy's major shortcomings: Kelly's fifteenth principle of rather to starve than to deal with the Navy is nothing short of astonishment. The descriptions of the Navy's sticking to Aegis frigate rather than Skunk Works' SWATH ship, and preferring traditional submarines rather than stealth submarines are so, so astounding. Right now, U.S. has the world's greatest naval power. U.S. naval power could have been much, much greater and the cost to the tax payers could have been much, much lower cost if the Navy had adopted stealth technologies from Skunk Works.

6) On the harmful effects of government interferences, wastes and bureaucratic madness: Reading this book and you can understand why we spend so much in defense and get so little in return.

Overall, this book deserves more than 5 stars. It should be read by CEOs and CTOs (Chief Technology Officer) of every major and high tech corporation looking for ways to leapfrog the competitions. It should be read by every Secretary of Defense and officers in high military echelons looking for military technologies to surpass other nations. It should be read by every bright scientists and engineers looking for a place to work where major innovations can be produced. It should be read by every science and engineering professors on how to educate future generations of science and engineering students that can create and innovate.

Awesome aerospace/military history

Skunk works is the true story behind the coolest, high tech, top secret, aerospace engineering division operated by the Lockheed Martin corporation. Forged by legendary U. Michigan alumnus Kelly Johnson, the Skunk Works has created the coolest planes of recent memory, including the SR-71 Blackbird (currently visible on the flight deck of the Intrepid Aircraft Carrier in NYC), the F117A Stealth Fighter, and the U2 spy plane. The F22 Raptor and the Joint Strike Fighter are also creations of the Skunk Works, but are not covered in this autobiography written by the successor to Kelly Johnson, Ben Rich.
This quick read is well worth your while for a couple of reasons. First, the stories behind the creation of these planes is very interesting. For example, the Skunk Works engineers found the mathematical key to the stealth design buried within an obscure physics journal originally published in Russian. Oddly, the Russians military never capitalized on the principle, despite urgings from the article's Russian author. Furthermore, when the stealth plane was first designed and kept in a secret hanger infested with some bats, the bats couldn't detect the plane with their "sonar-like" sense, and they ended up crashing into it.
The book also makes for excellent military and therefore world history. Accomplishments of the U2 spy plane and the F117-A Stealth Fighter are covered in depth and literally changed the course of world events during the Cold War, the Vietnam War, the Korean War, the Gulf War, and other skirmishes. Ben Rich also speculates on the future types of planes currently on the minds of engineers at the Skunk Works, and the implications will change how wars are fought in the future.
For readers who liked this book, NOVA recently published a video on the creation of the Joint Strike Fighter, a contract fought over between the Skunk Works and the Phantom Works of Boeing. These do all fighters are amazing, and this video is definately worth watching for those who enjoyed "Skunk Works."

Engrossing true story

I'm not particularly an avid reader of military history books or contemporary history books in general, but after a coworker described this book, curiosity got the better of me and I bought it. I'm glad I did.
Ben R. Rich joined the legendary 'Skunk Works' as a young engineer, worked on some of the most secretive military projects in recent history, and later ended up taking over management of Skunk Works. As a result, perhaps no one else in the world has as much first hand knowledge of these projects, and no one else is better positioned to chronicle some of America's military crown jewels.
Rich (and Janos) have crafted a unique book that gives Ben Rich story, with interesting first hand accounts from pilots, air force personnel, and highly placed government officials. Rich covers the struggles encountered while building various classified aircraft: the U2, SR-71 BlackBird, the stealth fighter, the stealth boat, among others. He also lightly delves into the darker side of the defense industry: politics, waste, and bureaucracy.
An amazing read, and highly recommended.

Teach Yourself Visually books in general are my favorite ways to learn software

Teach Yourself Visually books in general are my favorite ways to learn software. They show you step-by-step how to accomplish whatever task you want to do with the program. Even more interesting is that ALL the screenshots are in color, as opposed to the black and white that many books use. I have always liked this aspect to this series.s For the QuickBooks book specifically, it has already saved me time. I use this program regularly for recording things in the check register. There are a couple other tasks that I use occasionally, but rarely. Each time, I have to slowly review menu list by menu list, to figure out how to do what I need to accomplish. With this book, I found the page (describing what to do) literally in ten seconds. And with the step-by-step instructions, it demonstrated exactly what to do. I wish I had this book several years ago when I first started using QuickBooks.

A great task-based, instructional book for the visual learners

Teach Yourself Visually QuickBooks 2015 is a quick instructional guide that shows you the how to perform various tasks in QuickBooks without the long winded explanations and technical details. The book covers important topics over 15 chapters, ranging from getting started in the software, invoicing, customers and vendors, payroll, taxes, time/mileage tracking, recording payments to managing bills and bank accounts. These topics are thoughtfully broken into 2-page modular lessons that are designed to walk you through step by step, complemented visually by full-color screenshots and illustrations. It's a great way to learn how to use a specific feature of the software quickly, without getting bogged down by technical backgrounds and explanations.

The book does a good job of getting the readers started in actually performing a specific task in no time. If you are a visual learner or like to follow step-by-step instructions without all the details, this book is a great guide for you. One caveat though. It doesn't distinguish between the different editions of QuickBooks 2015 and whether certain lessons may be applicable.

Great for a quick reference in color

I just received this book (soft cover) from Amazon and all of the pages are cut off on the right side of the book.
Looks very strange, not like the "Look Inside" preview pages shown on the website.
I intend to return this to Amazon and try again.

On a positve note, it is in color and from what I can see, looks helpful.

The screenshots are accurate to the Quickbooks program.
The book is a good, quick reference for "how to", but it's not a comprehensive tutorial package for beginners.

Loved Thomas! A fun, emotional and steamy read!

Loved Thomas! Thomas's mate literally runs right into him. Pamala is caught in a crowd with a vampire hot on her boots when she runs into a large lycan male and asks for help. Pablo catches up, spouts some smack, than takes off. Pamala is not happy with her Beta mate and is beyond snarky about it. OUCH!, I really felt sorry for Thomas. Dean and Jem finally mate. Pablo finally gets what he deserves. Bartholomew is really shaken by the recent events and near losses to his Pack and wants to distance himself, maybe even disappear, that is until Dean's sister shows up. Deanna, is going to make life intresting for the very old Vampire! A fun, emotional and steamy read!

Another good story!

Dean and Jem finally mate after she really gives him the runaround. I have to admit I love adding bear shifters to this mix! :) Thomas finds his mate...err...she actually finds him when she ran into him literally and asks for his protection after Pablo is after her. Pamela's thankful but wants to move on and keep running. Not sure why she would think she's in the clear with that vampire. She's totally stubborn and not very nice to Thomas and honestly he's not nice back a couple times. Not his fault really she really does some humdingers on him. Ha. Pablo gets his though...he was too cocky for his own good. Bart kinda freaks because he has been very close with the pack. He's a part of it and Jem being so close to death and like a daughter to him really rattled him and he felt he needed to distance himself. I dont blame him but thats not the answer. However, his answer DOES come into the form of Dean's sister Deanna. Oh...Bart is there to stay. Great ending!

Equality of Education Outcomes Is NOT a Good Objective -

Authors Chester Finn and Brandon Wright first defend the idea that policymakers should stop ignoring gifted students - it's become PC to instead discuss 'educational equity' and devote more resources to students struggling to read at grade level. (The political lobby for gifted students is practically nonexistent.) Gifted students, however, are the most likely to make major contributions to society - in any area. They are our future leaders, yet are rarely pushed to achieve their full potential. They also reference research showing that bright pupils unchallenged in school do not progress as far on their own as ones challenged in school.

Turns out that foreign applicants to American business schools (especially those applicants from India and China) do much better on the quantitative portion of the GMAT than their American counterparts. Not surprising, however, when one looks at the details of the Program for International student Assessment (PISA) exams in 2012. It's well known that the U.S. ranked poorly (17th in reading, 20th in science and 27th in math), but not nearly so well known how few young Americans reach the top ranks.

The PISA test results are broken down into six levels of math skill, and only 9% of our 15-year-olds scored within the top two tiers (behind 11 other nations). Singapore, however, had 40% of their pupils in those two top levels, with Taiwan close behind at 38% Korea at 31%, and Canada with 16%. Among American high achievers, 8X as many pupils come from the top socioeconomic quartile as from the bottom, compared to 4X in Canada, 5X in Australia, and 3X in Singapore. High-scoring American pupils are similarly underrepresented in PISA science scores.

So, the authors took the obvious next step and looked at how education differed in other nations vs. the U.S. Surprise - when parents value education and push their children (Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, China), it makes a difference. Similarly for when competition is appreciated rather than shunned or frowned on. A third finding - separate learning opportunities, supplements, acceleration, and enrichment programs (Germany, Switzerland, Western Australia, Taiwan, Singapore Canada's Ontario) are far more effective than 'differentiated instruction.' Another 'clue' - student progress should be based on mastery, instead of age-based grade levels.

We need to stop worrying about elitism. It is impossible to be equal an excellent too, per John Gardner. And we need to do more than simply trying to 'lift the floor,' close 'the gap,' etc.

Can we do better?

American Education has focused on equity for several decades--on making sure that children who come from disadvantaged backgrounds reach a minimum level of proficiency. And there has been some success in closing that gap.

On the other hand, bright and high ability children are often neglected with the assumption that they will do fine anyway. The authors are concerned with those children for whom the minimum provides no challenge. How have these children been served? And how do our most capable students stand in relation with students from other countries?

While the authors make a strong case for better opportunities for all children with high ability or who are high achievers, they are even more concerned about the neglect of high ability students from disadvantaged homes in which academics are not a priority, students whose parents are unaware of what is offered or don't have the financial means to take advantage, students who live in areas where transportation to a better school is not available or practical, and of students who speak another language at home. Untapped and neglected potential that we cannot afford to waste. Why are other countries doing better at reaching these students than we are?

Intelligent, mostly objective, not strong proposals

This is an intelligent, well written and generally objective and fair book. It does have a bias but not so strong as to prevent the authors from being mostly fair in their analysis. Their conclusions and proposals for reform are not especially strong or convincing in the last two chapters. And their charts are not always pertinent or clear. I don't have a strong opinion one way or the other about gifted education. I know that gifted kids often do not get a good education in the US and therefore are harmed. But I also believe in equal opportunity and I don't think it would be fair to emphasize opportunities for more intelligent students if that came at the expense of other students. I am not qualified to settle this dispute. The book is worth reading. Other good books and information on education can be found here:

Wonderful contemporary poetry

An excellent anthology of contemporary poetry, by various international authors.
I bought the paperback first, and the kindle version later to take with me while commuting, and both are well done.
A good read !!!
