Unsatisfying. Pass.

Don't let the thickness/number of pages (most of it the clues and answer section) or the MENSA stamp convince you, *cough*like it did me,*cough* to buy this book if you're a puzzle fan. Many of them struck me as hit-or-miss. A lot of the puzzles were okay or throwaways but nothing superb enough to share or bother remembering.

The clue section does not seem always that helpful. Rather than feeling like hints or offering questions they're just statements (to questions?) that are sometimes not that helpful in solving the puzzle. Maybe these clues would have been better with a stronger question-answer format?

Some of these puzzles feel far too general to have a single definite answer--to which the clue section at times doesn't help even narrow that. Others turn out to be fact or trivia based and your trivia/historical knowledge is dependent on you solving it. This is a very unsatisfying book when too many of the puzzles have you looking the back of the book for a definite answer both when you're by yourself and in a group. Even more so when you try to pass it off or share this book with others and they turn out to be unhappy with it as well.

Go ahead and pass on this. You can find better. =)

This is one of the dumbest books ever written!

This is not a book for intelligent thinking, it's a book of parlor puzzles and trivia factoids. Perhaps in a different format it could be entertaining, but as a question and answer book it just plain stinks. Sample question: A man went into his local shopping center. A woman whom he had never met before wished him a happy birthday. How did she know it was his birthday?
The "Answer": The man went to an eye doctor to have an eye test. The doctor looked at his record and noticed that today was his birthday.
I had to flip pages to find this nugget of an answer! I want my money back for the time I spent looking at this book!

Some decent lateral thinking puzzles, some out there puzzles

If you've read lateral thinking puzzle books before, this one is not much different. It's somewhat thicker than most of those books, so it has more puzzles, but it also has a few less-than-superb puzzles. The historical puzzles for the most part are trivia bits more than deductive reasoning, but they take up only a small amount of the puzzles.

I'd say two out of every three puzzles are still anywhere from challenging to downright clever, which is enough for me to give it almost 2/3 of a full score.

I'm so glad Siah put her foot down with Taylor. That chick did not know her place and I partially blamed that on Sheed! He messed up and made things complicated all because he was lonely. Siah knowing what went on made her make some mistakes as well. I'm glad the two of them got it together. Siah wasn't playing any games especially when it came to her kids and her money. I don't blame Cyn for how she did Frenchy because he had a lot of growing up to do. Jaylah loved her some Ock. That man was everything anyone would want. I couldn't stand LB. That man was wrong for how he did his own flesh and blood, but he allowed a real man to step in and do the right thing. I can't wait to read more from Jahquel!!!!

****SPOILERS!!!**** I really liked Rasheed in the previous stories, but I was disappointed in him in this one. He should never have gone there with Taylor knowing how Messiah hated her and then he adds insult to injury by not using protection and not getting rid of her well before Messiah came home. And then she doesn't stay in her lane and acts like she is wifey, WTH? I did not blame Messiah for her little fling with Courage and to be honest if she had got on that plane, I would have been okay with that. I loved Courage and I hope there is a future series or book with him as the male lead, he deserves happiness with his sexy self. Loved the finale.

This volume was initially developed while the senior author was teaching prosthetics and orthotics to entry-level physical therapy students over a period of many years. During that time our students and others asked repeatedly for a single resource around which they could focus their learning. This book is our response to their prodding.

Although developed primarily for physical therapy students, this book should be useful for many with limited experience or background in prosthetics and orthotics. It should be appropriate for other health care professionals including nurses, physicians, occupational therapists, vocational counselors, and more recently, managed care providers. The text assumes only a basic understanding of anatomy, kinesiology, and to some extent, pathology.

The primary objective of this volume is to provide a sound overview of the principles underlying the art and science of prosthetics and orthotics as currently practiced in the United States. We fully recognize that there are distinct regional differences and preferences in prostethics and orthotics (P&O) practice throughout this country and others. The reader should know that he or she may never encounter some of the devices described in this text and is very likely to encounter devices, which vary significantly, or even drastically, from those presented herein. This book is not intended as an encyclopedic treatise of every possible P&O device. Such a work, if possible, would be overwhelming in size and outdated before it appeared in print. Rather, our intention is to address the fundamental concepts underlying the rational selection and application of common prosthetic and orthotic devices. Our hope is that the interested reader will use this information as a foundation for informed dialog to enhance the quality of patient care.

A final comment must be made about the concept of integrating both prosthetics and orthotics into one volume. Although traditionally considered as somewhat distinct topics, we have found an integrated approach to teaching these subjects to be very logical and effective. Recent developments in materials and fabrication methods and common functional goals for applying these external devices appear to blur some of the long-standing distinctions between these two disciplines. Although comments and techniques from both prosthetics and orthotics may be integrated, the reader is reminded that chapters dealing with anatomical levels of both disciplines appear as separate entities. This allows the text to be used as a quick reference by simply accessing the chapter dealing with the relevant question. It should be appropriate for other health care professionals including nurses, physicians, occupational therapists, vocational counselors, and more recently, managed care providers. The text assumes only a basic understanding of anatomy, kinesiology, and to some extent, pathology.

The primary objective of this volume is to provide a sound overview of the principles underlying the art and science of prosthetics and orthotics as currently practiced in the United States. We fully recognize that there are distinct regional differences and preferences in prostethics and orthotics (P&O) practice throughout this country and others. The reader should know that he or she may never encounter some of the devices described in this text and is very likely to encounter devices, which vary significantly, or even drastically, from those presented herein. This book is not intended as an encyclopedic treatise of every possible P&O device. Such a work, if possible, would be overwhelming in size and outdated before it appeared in print. Rather, our intention is to address the fundamental concepts underlying the rational selection and application of common prosthetic and orthotic devices. Our hope is that the interested reader will use this information as a foundation for informed dialog to enhance the quality of patient care.

A final comment must be made about the concept of integrating both prosthetics and orthotics into one volume. Although traditionally considered as somewhat distinct topics, we have found an integrated approach to teaching these subjects to be very logical and effective. Recent developments in materials and fabrication methods and common functional goals for applying these external devices appear to blur some of the long-standing distinctions between these two disciplines. Although comments and techniques from both prosthetics and orthotics may be integrated, the reader is reminded that chapters dealing with anatomical levels of both disciplines appear as separate entities. This allows the text to be used as a quick reference by simply accessing the chapter dealing with the relevant question. Perhaps future editions of this or similar texts may include chapters entitled "Prosthotics"!

Good introductory book for prosthetists/orthotists or others involved in the rehabilitation process

I was pleased to find this book online and save money. I used the book for a specific course in Prosthetic and Orthotic school, but it had a bunch of information I used in all of my classes. I find myself using it as a reference even though the class is over. It gets into pretty good detail about the current modalities and clinical practices, different types of pathologies and accommodative devices for the specifics. A good section on biomechanics and gait , and it was pretty current on mateials as well. I enjoy strange facts as they are mentioned, throughout. I recommend it for anyone involved in caring for amputees or people requiring long term orthotic care, including patients themselves and families. This is a good intro book before the atlases. Bert Spector is an "Associate Professor in the Human Resources Management Group at Northeastern University," an associate of the Harvard Law School Program on Negotiations, and a visiting professor at MIT's Sloan School of Management and INSEAD (France). Professor Spector holds a PhD from the University of Missouri. Since joining the College of Business Administration faculty in 1983, he has coauthored a number of books in the area of human resource management and organizational change, including "Managing Human Assets" (1984), "Human Resource Management: A General Manager's Perspective" (1985), and "The Critical Path to Corporate Renewal" (1990). Astonishingly overpriced

Charging over a hundred dollars for a trade paperback sized book of only 190 pages is simply unethical. Even by Pearson standards, this is the most staggeringly overpriced textbook that I have ever seen. If you are required to purchase this for a class, you should complain to your instructor and department head about it. There is little revolutionary material in this black and white text.

Textbook under 200 pages, easy read, flimsy and cheap looking book, decent content.

Required textbook used in a graduate level organizational development course. Short textbook at 8 Chapters and 195 pages. Content is acceptable and easy to read, but doesn't quite meet up to a higher level college course standard. The purchase price for the actual book is outrageous for such a small paperback with low quality paper that is less than 200 pages. Rental price was reasonable. The basic format of the chapters included: objectives, real-world case example, chapter content, conclusion, discussion questions, and case study with discussion questions. Nothing is in depth or very detailed. Within the chapter content, there are theory into practice statements (main point or idea of section) and multiple exhibits related to the written content.

Great for Taekwondo teachers

I'm a Taekwondo teacher. I'm not fluent in Korean, but I do like to use as much Korean terminology in the dojang as possible. This book has been a great resource for me to honor Taekwondo's Korean heritage and make our dojang a unique, Korean-language-based training hall. The book is separated into easy-to-use sections ("Small Talk", "Eating Out", "Sports Activities"), making it effortless to find what I need for the day's classes. I'm trying to introduce new phrases every day, and the children I teach are picking up more and more Korean easily. This book makes it so simple to do. I highly recommend it! Thanks, Tuttle!

Powerful and Lifechanging

I was there at those meetings in 2010 and heard Sophal Ung share his testimony. Reading the book and once again hearing is stirring my heart to follow Jesus no matter the cost. Thankful to Randy Clark and Susan Thompson who made this book a reality.

Excellent Account of A Man's Journey with God through the Khmer Rouge Genocide and More

Having lived in Cambodia and seen the impact of the Khmer Rouge and years of civil wars on the Cambodian people and their nation, this book really touched me. I have read other accounts of Cambodian's who survived the Khmer Rouge, but this was the first account of a Christian. I found the spiritual insight and details fascinating. The supernatural stories are simply amazing and at times left me speechless. From Sophal's encounter praying for King Norodom Sihanouk to be healed to meeting an angel that helps deliver her child in the jungle, this book is an amazing testament of a man who has laid down his life for Christ. I would recommend this to anyone interested in learning more about Christian supernatural experiences as well as aspiring missionaries, evangelists, or people curious about how God works and moves with his people.

Wow!!! I am so deeply moved by the life of Sophal and I know there is still more to come. I've read every biography out there on christian revivalists and leaders. But I've never read of someone whose life so closely resembled that of the apostle Paul. The testimony of this humble servant of God will greatly increase your faith and hunger.

There are six stories with a good mix of stories such as fantasy

This is the second book in the first grade series of five. There are six stories with a good mix of stories such as fantasy, nonfiction and realistic fiction. At the end of each story there's a paragraph or two about the author/illustrator and a suggested activity. If you have other Harcourt reading books be aware the Collection series may have some reoccurring stories (hence Collections). We also enjoy Harcourt's Trophies (I like Trophies more actually) but I don't think there's enough reoccurring stories to not purchase Collections.

It's a bird. It's a plane. Nope, it's Hawk.

I'm always sad to see one of Kathi's series end, but I know it's going to be the perfect good-bye. Hawk is no exception. We've seen the other pride members find their mates, now it's Hawk's turn.

First, Awnia, his fated mate, is powerful. Supremely so. She's a Sun goddess (how cool, right?) and has some royal (hint, hint) blood flowing through her veins. But, those same powers also cause to her be hunted. I won't say by who, nanner nanner nanner, because it's a big part of the story. Thankfully, Awnia is able to get through to Vinnie, a dragon and member of the Pride from a previous book in the series. They have a history together and can communicate telepathically when he's in his human form. Vinnie enlists Hawk's help in finding Awnia. His ability to shift into a hawk comes in mighty handy. Awnia is found and taken to a safe place on Pride land.

Meanwhile, we also learn a little more about Hawk. The place he found Awnia in is his hometown. He decides to visit his childhood home, where he is welcomed by Deacon and Margo. They've worked for his parents for years and love him. But we learn he hasn't spoken to his parents in years because they are evil people who don't deserve the title parents. They've always felt Hawk was a monster and tried to have him "fixed." Add in the fact that Hawk is an elite shifter, can shift into numerous animals, and they will go to any lengths to try and get rid of him. Did you catch that? Any lengths.

Hawk and Awnia meet as she's on her way to Hawk's house for a Pride meeting about her situation. Hawk knows right away she's his mate, but Awnia was always told she could never have a mate. She decides to be with him for as long as she can, while trying to keep everyone safe. Of course, Hawk won't let her deny their connection. She's his and he's hers. Psst...Hawk can be very persuasive. ;-)

There's love, danger, sexy times, mysteries are solved, lies are revealed, and a family is reunited. I loved Hawk and Awnia together and it was great catching up with the couples from the previous books. I'm going to miss these characters, so thank goodness for rereads. I highly recommend this book, but do suggest you read the series in order for continuity and full enjoyment of the characters.

A special shifter needs a special mate

We say good by to another series that I am going to miss. I enjoyed the diversified characters and pairings of our favorite characters. Hawk was special so he needed a special mate and Ms. Barton gave him a goddess. Awnia is a powerful being with powerful enemies, when she is hurt she finds herself with Samuel's pride. Never expecting to find a mate she pushes Hawk away to keep him safe. I really like them as a couple, they filled a void that the other was missing. They both needed love , to give love and to trust they were loveable. The story was easy to follow and read fast. The power of love, family, friendship and the magic between all the characters is amazing to read about. They rally to protect their own from any and all threat. Hawk keeping true to his abilities always makes me smile and the necromancer ability adds some fun. My only fault with the story is the confrontation with Temptress, it was built up to be something major enough to frighten a goddess but seemed anticlimactic when it happened. Still a good read and I look forward to moving on to another series by this author.

Another great ending to another series

Oh again another series comes to an end. I'll be wondering what to do with my life again for a bit and probably end up rereading the series all over again because then it won't feel like it's over completely.

Two people who never thought they would ever find a mate for them meet and instant sparks!

Hawk is an elite shifter with some unique abilities. He doesn't believe he may ever find a mate who will look beyond the weird abilities to the man he is and love him.

Awnia is a goddess that has been cursed by her mother and lives on the Earth realm. Vinnie and her met hundreds of years ago, now she must call upon him again to come help her before she dies at the hands of the Hatter. Awnia knows she's bounds to be alone until her mother finds her and kills her, for if she were to find a mate, Temptress (her mother) would kill him.

Can Hawk convince her they are destine to be together. Will their bond withstand the many obstacles about to be place before them?
